After more than thirty years working with executives and managers from around the world, including briefer stints with undergraduate and graduate students, I have developed a deep appreciation for our individual and collective ability to produce the myriad products and services on which we all depend. Whether machines, materials, medicines, buildings, books, food, or ways to have fun – everything we rely upon and enjoy – each exists because some individual, team, or organization took up the task and successfully brought it into existence. Starting from the raw materials of nature or the products produced by those who came before, such people leave us with the very means of our well-being, even of our survival.
From this appreciation comes my own mission: to contribute in whatever ways I can to both celebrate and facilitate the difficult task of being productive. By writing, coaching individuals and teams, and advising those who do the same, I hope to assist anyone who wants to be as productive as they can be, make the most of their skills and abilities, contribute to the well-being of others through their efforts, and participate as fully as possible in this very special and profoundly human endeavor.
